Another Place - Gormley Statues

For months I’ve wanted to visit the Gormley iron statues at Crosby. For a while I thought they were at Formby which is an hour away. I didn’t really want to make that trip unless I knew I would get the shots I wanted. Its only recently I noticed that they are at Crosby, which is only 30 mins away. Saturday’s weather was good. Fluffy clouds during the day and no sign of rain. So off I went. Its a bit of a walk from the car park to the statues but well worth it. When I got there it hit me just how huge a project it was. I saw probably 10 statues at most and there are 100 of them. At a guess they probably are at Formby too, judging from the number of them. Its quite something. I managed to get about 2 shots I liked before the sun faded behind a cloud. Typical really. I also wanted to get a great shot of one from the front with a powerful sky behind. It didn’t really occur to me until I was there that I would be blocking the sun light. They look fantastic at sunset though. The light hits them perfectly and with the rust they’re just awesome. I feel like there’s quite a lot to explore with these guys. They must go on for a few miles and I have had some fun ideas to try with them. You can read more on Art in Liverpool. Oh, I was tempted to put the monkey hat on one but I just didn’t really know where he’s been.

Great image. I went here myself, last year, on what was supposed to be the last weekend that the statues were there. The beach was absolutely mobbed.

Great colors, a great frame. The statue seems to be on a long walk ant the shadow is the trail.
