What looked like a really great visual performance last night but annoyingly I was stuck in the middle of all the crowds. I was told that I wouldn’t need a press pass to get good shots… It just annoyed me seeing such a fantastic display and not being able to do a thing to photograph it. I left the 70-200 at home because I didn’t think I would need it. So I was stuck in the middle of kids on shoulders, camera phones and random heads.

“So I was stuck in the middle of kids on shoulders, camera phones and random heads” … and it makes the shot. A nicely balanced image.

Got to agree, the people being there gives it context, makes it more natural seeming rather than “ohh look at the pretty lights” :)

While I do feel that this photo works, it was a 30-45 minute performance with dancers. I was simply too far away to photograph them and blocked by peoples heads. I only really got a few nice shots at the end when the fireworks went off. The majority of the event was lost.

Hah, people taking fireworks photos with cell phone cameras. Kinda reminds me of people using flashes at nighttime baseball games, or taking handheld photos of the moon. I hope that works out well for them.

Have your say
