Rabbit

Initially this was filmed simply because I wanted to film my hamster. He was ill at the time and I thought it would be nice to play with my Canon G9’s movie feature by capturing some footage of him. He was 2 and a half and pretty much the best hamster I’ve had. He would be happy to sit there and watch tv with me. You can see that he’s not quite normal in the video because he stumbles a bit and is jittery. Unfortunately the following morning he was bleeding and about 10 times worse. He’d stumble about then sleep when he couldn’t walk anymore. Initially I was going to give him the weekend and see how he went but I thought he’s only going to bleed more and since he’s not eating or drinking he probably wouldn’t make it. So I decided to put him to sleep. I sat outside the vets for about 10 minutes with him watching him sleep on my hand. The poor guy. He really hadn’t had a good week. He was fine at the start. Only the other day he was ripping into a monkey nut and now he didn’t have any energy. I hadn’t noticed but you could see his ribs :( So he’s technically in a better place now in that he’s free from pain. Bye Rabbit. Oh and he was called Rabbit because thats what it said on his food bowl. Clearly that was his name and who am I to argue.

[...] dancing at Mathew St Festival. In other news, my hamster called Rabbit died yesterday. I made a movie using my Canon G9 which is ok in normal focus but if you put it into macro you actually get decent depth of field. [...]

Sorry to hear about your hamster. He sure looks a cutie. Ive kept hamsters for ages and its very sad when they pass on, but they often make lovely pets.

Its a fantastic video from the camera though :)

Have your say
